1. Sailing in San Diego
We made it to San Diego twice this year, but never on the water. Craig really wanted to do a sailing excursion from San Diego to Catalina island. You rent and sleep on a boat for a few days and learn how to sail with an instructor. Which means I'm the one learning to sail because Craig has been taking sailing lessons since last October. Then we drop off the captain/instructor and sail to Catalina island by ourselves for a night or two! Catalina sounds awesome but there were a couple of problems with this plan: (1) I have a fear of being on such a small boat in an open body of water (2) Craig and I would have to sail together. Craig and I don't work well together, we MUST divide and conquer otherwise it's just a huge fight. We are Team Halver when it comes to parenting but hanging a picture, assembling toys, (and probably sailing) we rarely agree on how it gets done.
2. Cardinal game in a cold location
Strike one on our "trips not taken in 2015".
3. San Juan islands/Portland summer vacay with Agidius family
We LOVE Oregon! And it sure was nice spending 4th of July in good weather! We didn't make it to the San Juan islands or Seattle on this trip. Instead Seaside beach and Bend for crabbing and beer. I will always remember that crab omelette the morning we left... So good.
4. Lake Powell houseboat
First annual trip in 2015! We're getting ready to book 2016 :)
5. Remodel a room in the house together
We updated our master bedroom just before Christmas, from burgundy and brown to a more modern spa feel of grey and blue. Next up is our office aka brew room. As soon as I sell the desk, we're moving the dollhouse and train table into the brew room! In 2016 we will have our living room and beautiful fireplace back.
6. Be an AZ tourist & see a new part of the state
Greer and Page, done & done.
7. Barbarian night family dinner
No hands! The girls pretty much do this most nights. Honestly I'm not sure why I added this one haha.
8. Weekly yoga for mom & dad!
This lasted for about a month and then it turned into Mom's time to unwind :) No complaints here!
9. Start a garden
This lasted a little longer... We had tomatoes and a few herbs until it go too hot. Neither of us had enough of a green thumb to keep plants alive in the summer.
10. Long weekend getaway for mom & dad
Strike two. Keeping this on the list for 2016!
11. Monthly blog updates!
I accomplished monthly-ish :)
12. Family movie nights
We watched all the Star Wars movies together as a family including the new one. The girls are all about "Life Savers" and "Dark Vader". It doesn't matter how many times you correct them, that's how they say it!
13. 20 minutes of reading every night
Done! It helps that this is part of Allison's daily homework.
14. Teach Allison/Drew how to read
Allison is reading slowly but getting it done! Drew will correct Allison on some of the sight words. We're on our way!!
15. New Years fondue toddler party
It wasn't exactly fondue, more like brisket. Craig found the biggest prime cut of brisket I've ever seen and smoked it all night on 12/30. We hosted 6 other families and had a friendly competition of minute to win it games for the kids (and parent entertainment) plus balloons at 9pm to celebrate the New Year. Craig is off next year too so we may just have to do it again!!
